The Oatmeal is known across the internet for his distinctive and hilarious comics, and more recently he’s been known as one of the collaborators on the hugely popular card game Exploding Kittens. Now, Matthew Inman (The Oatmeal) and game designer Elan Lee are launching another card game called Bears vs. Babies. It’s exactly what it sounds like.Bears vs. Babies is a monster-building card game played in rounds that take about 20 minutes. You can pre-order the game on Kickstarter, where it has already raised more than $1 million, much more than the $10,000 goal. That’s also where you can get a good overview of the gameplay. The gist is that each player takes turns drawing cards, which are either babies or parts of bears (or other monsters). The babies are played immediately and are the true enemy. Each player uses the monster cards to create a creature to battle the babies. The goal is to knock out your opponents by provoking the babies at the right time. If your monsters are weaker than the army of babies, you lose. There are also other ways to buff up your creatures and weaken your opponents. So, you don’t technically need to defeat the babies, just make sure everyone else is devoured by them. And of course, each card includes a visual lovingly drawn by The Oatmeal in the style we’ve all come to know and love.If you want to join the campaign, the core deck is $25. For $10 more you get the NSFW booster pack. The base game is kid-friendly, but the booster pack definitely is not. The game is expected to ship in June 2017.
