Tweet EducationLocalNewsSecondary Education officials to meet with North East Comprehensive School’s PTA next week by: – November 24, 2011 Sharecenter_img Share 17 Views   no discussions Image via: spschool.orgThe Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development has extended an invitation to the executive members of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and principal of the North East Comprehensive School (NECS) to meet with senior education officials on Monday November 28th to discuss their concerns.The Parents Teachers Association staged protest action on Monday claiming that their children have been enduring poor learning conditions in an unsafe environment at the school.According to a release by the Ministry of Education, officials will dialogue with stakeholders to address their most pressing issues in relation to the physical environment of the school, and outline the ministry’s plan for the continued development of the NECS.The policy of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development is that education is not a privilege but a right of every Dominican child. Therefore, the ministry will continue to provide support to all educational institutions in Dominica.The report states that as part of ongoing schools’ maintenance, work on the technical block of the NECS, funded by the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) in the amount of EC$813,417.00 is near completion. An additional amount of EC$114, 766.00 has been approved by the BNTF for its completion.Improvement works under the Dominica Education Enhancement Project (DEEP) began in August 2011, at a cost of EC$112. 882.00. Plumbing works in the Food and Nutrition Room and installation of curtains and a mirror in the Clothing and Textile room have been completed as well as metal works in the Food and Nutrition, Technical Drawing and Auto Mechanic rooms.The report further states that “additional works are ongoing on the construction and installation of storage cabinets to the Technical and Auto Mechanic rooms and installation of electricity in the Technical Drawing room”.In June 2011, seventy chairs were supplied to the school and fifty more will be delivered by next week.In 2007 twenty (20) new computers were donated to the school and in 2009 thirty (30) additional new computers were provided under the ICT Development Project. The school was also equipped with a fully functional server and network. The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development will, during the Christmas holidays undertake phased work at the NECS to replace damaged windows. This will involve the installation of twenty-four windows on the western classroom block and two windows on the administrative block. Work on the walkway, linking the classroom block to the other parts of the school compound, will commence during the summer of 2012. Dominica Vibes Newslast_img read more
